The Nike Virtual Running Assistant was an IBM iX initiative leveraging the IBM Expert Personal Shopper platform to push the untapped potential of "conversational commerce" with one of the world's leading ecommerce pioneers, Nike. Powered by IBM Watson, the platform has the ability to utilize natural language interfaces, chat, and messaging can help understand customer intent in real-time. This ultimately can help nurture more relevant or contextural interactions, learn product catalogs, new product releases, recall inventory, or provide logistics information. Additionally, it can process external content such as weather, geographic locations, and make suggestions to the user.
This means IBM Watson has the ability to learn and evolve from constant interaction or input from customers, thus becoming capable of surfacing relevant content and product offerings. This particular objective is an evoluton to search and filtering technology, which has become a dated ecommerce experience. It also eliminates decision fatigue and provides the ability to have the virtual experience feel more aligned with a personal in-store interaction with a true running expert.
